goodbye tonsils!

Caroline said goodbye to her tonsils and adenoids on Monday. It's horrible to have to watch your child be in pain, but she is such a trooper!

Her tonsils were so large that they were affecting her breathing passage. Her nose has been blocked by the adenoid and I really think she hasn't been able to breathe properly for her entire life! I am hoping this will help with her chronic congestion, mouth breathing, and chronic tonsilitus.

We went in Monday morning and fortunately we were allowed to go in the pre-op room with her. They gave her "goofy juice", before the general anesthesia, and let me tell you she was hilarious! We told her to just enjoy her "high" and we laughed. I know the goofy juice made it really nice for her and us. She was taken back to the operating room laying down in a bed and really had no idea what was going on.

She is at home now and it is supposed to be a full 2 week recovery. Monday and Tuesday were REALLY bad. She couldn't keep anything down and the look on her face was awful. Today is Wednesday and we are struggling to keep her down. She's not supposed to run, yell, or anything for 2 weeks! If you know Caroline well, you will know that this might be impossible. As I write this she is moping around the house saying "I can't do anything fun."

She has 4 medications and we are rotating every 3 hours between hydrocodene and motrin (yes, even through the night).

Her diet has pretty much been noodle soup, popsickles, oatmeal, pudding, jello, and yogurt. I need to get creative over the next few days with some other foods.

I took this picture when she was in the recovery room.It was impossible waking her up, but we finally got her dressed and you can tell she is very unaware of her surroundings. I held my phone up and she gave me this half smile all on her own. Poor baby girl.
